Leave the key like this for 10 to 15 minutes. If the anti-theft light is not blinking, turn off the ignition, leave the key in place for about three minutes, and then start the vehicle. Repeat if necessary. With the car unlocked, insert the key into each door, turn it as if you’re unlocking the vehicle, and hold it in place for 30 seconds.
An immobiliser is a security device that disables the car's starter motor, fuel system and ignition system when the correct key is used. It became mandatory for all new cars in the UK from 1998 and can be Thatcham-approved or not. You can check if your car has an immobiliser by looking for a transponder chip in the key or by using Thatcham's website.
Not many people know exactly what that question means or what the answer should be, quite simply because they do not know what a factory-fitted immobiliser is or whether their car has one. Most people answer ‘no’, because they feel it’s better to say they don’t have one and later find out that they do, rather than the other way around.

Local VW commercial centre have been as much use as a fart in a space suit. Brochure for the Shuttle (thanks for posting it @Pauly ) only states window van has a cat 2 system.

An Engine Immobilizer technologically uses an electronic chip that is embedded into the ECU of the vehicle to comprehend smart key codes and turn on the ignition on your vehicle.
Today’s immobiliser consists of two main parts: a transponder in the ignition key and a receiver in the car. When someone tries to start the engine, the car transmits a signal to the key. If the key returns the correct preset signal, the immobiliser sends a command to the engine control unit to start. If the signal is incorrect, the car won
Inside the switch there is an antenna which receives this signal and sends it to the car's computer. If the signal is the same as the one the car has saved, then the driver will be allowed to start the car. The immobilizer is automatic and manual activation is never needed. Remember that you can check if your car has this system or not in your
